ANOTHER IN OUR HISTORICAL SERIES
Fall of France May 1940Operation “Fall Gelb” Case Yellow May 1, 1940.
As discussed in last weeks article, the Allies were expecting the Germans to attack them, and had planned their defense and counterstrokes based on thinking leftover from WW1 strategy. Allied leaders were convinced that the main thrust of the Axis attack would be through Belgium and the Low Countries, along much the same lines as the 1st World War. OKW had placed its strongest formation, Army Group B along the Belgian-Dutch border which further convinced Allied strategists of the direction of the main attack. Army Group B however, was not the “coup de main” or main striking force of the German attack. Army Group A was. 6 Panzer divisions and 6 motorized divisions comprised the main thrust of the attack, the remaining Wehrmacht divisions of Army Group B would enter France on foot. Before continuing, let us consider world events happening. Britain’s Prime Minister, Nevelle Chamberlain, resigns on 09 May, and Winston Churchill is named Prime Minister (in a touch of irony, the British people would vote their war-time consiglieri out of office, right as the war was ending) on 10 May. At 4:30 am on the morning of May 10, German forces began their movements west, beginning with Fallschrimjager (Parachute) Regiments dropping on to key bridges in Holland and on the modern Belgian fort of Eben Emael. The seizing of the key Dutch bridges proved problematic, but the assault on the fortress was a huge success. Von Bock’s Army Group A now began its westward push toward Antwerp and Brussells, tying up 4 Allied armies. Von Rundstedt’s Army Group B now began its push towards Dinant spearheaded by Heinz Guderian’s XIX Corp, while Irwin Rommell and his 7th Panzer division fought their way to Sedan.
In next weeks article, we will discuss in detail the daring assault on Fortress Eben Emael, as well as the attempted crossings of the Wehrmacht across the Meuse, and the Allied reaction.

KardeHK, Commander in Chief
The tides of war have turned against us. The Allied forces continue their barbaric attacks against us and are staining the very soil of Germany with their presence.
But we fight on!
We make them pay for every town.
We make them pay for every bridge.
We make them pay for every house.
We make them pay for every meter!
We do not give up! Our will to resist this horde is strong! We are the heirs to the Teutonic knights of old! We fight for honor and glory!
Recognizing the valor, skill, and accomplishments of the Axis players and officers is the most important and satisfying part of being Commander in Chief. It is with great pride that I announce the following awards to very worthy individuals who make the Axis the power that we are.

S! Allied Forces
Campaign 180 has officially entered its fifth week and the Allied Forces are on the march. Two weeks ago, I wrote about how we had stopped the Axis advance west and begun to push back. We only held 48% of the map at that point. In those two weeks our combined forces have turned into a rabid dog off its leash. At the time I write this message we hold 88% of the map. Two days ago, the Axis held Sedan and Bethenville and were attacking Reims. Today we are at the doorstep of Koln. During these last two weeks we have seen incredible acts from both sides and memorable battles. This weekend the Allies pulled off a successful attack led by General de Division Kempi successfully encircling the entire 4th Panzer Division at Stadtkyll. The German Forces made a valiant final effort to breakout but ran out of time. In the span of 12 hours, we saw the peaceful the streets of Nettersheim run red with over 4,100 casualties from both sides.
The Allied Forces have seen incredible gains the last few weeks thanks to your unmatched tenacity and determination. I caution you the fight is not over yet; our adversary has shown they will not go quietly and will fight us every inch of the way. My message today is simple, continue to take the fight to our enemy, continue to do the little things, and lastly do not hesitate to deliver the fatal blow!
