April 7, 8, 9 and 10.

1st.ROF's EuroCon 2011, Kasteel de Berckt, The Netherlands.

What?! Is it that late again?! It sure is gentlemen. The 12th edition of the annual European convention for WWII (flight)sim enthusiasts and friends...
A vote was called in the crewroom, and the verdict was unanimously: 'GO!' :)
So in that case you may understand what that means, right? 4 days of long nights, deep conversations, enjoying some beers in the officer's mess, karaoke a classic John Denver song, escorting crashed and burned pilots back to their rooms, flying some dweeb planes, rolling rusty tanks, well...too much to handle probably, but who cares, it will be like just a day at the office ;)

Same as last edition, we are able to stay at the 'Kasteelboerderij' location in Baarlo with a very nice con room that suits our needs perfectly.
And to make sure that all remaining vulcanoes in the vicinity stay silent during the weekend, we can use the chapel over there to do some prayers!  Oh, just check last edition's AAR's for some explanation, the regulars do understand ;(

Ready for 4 days of ol' style Eurocon mayhem? Then lock and load, and let's try to get this little party of the ground again!

Baarlo, our location

In case your new with the location, a small intro follows...
Step into the past.
Enjoy the peace and quiet of the olden days. Kasteel de Berckt originates from the 12th century. In 1838 it was restored in Italian style. Kasteel de Berckt is situated by the river Meuse, set in 24 ha. of parkland. Within the garden walls and the moats there are many old exotic trees.
A great place which serves a good meal, nice chilled beer, and has a great history with Eurocons of the past :)

Overview of our stay

The accommodation is a perfect fit for our purposes. A con room with a bar (duhh!), closing time when we want to, tv flat screens, more than enough power available, local area network ready to serve, Internet (incl. WiFi), and free coffee.
The con room itself is large enough to place 40 computers and guests. Of course a beamer and audio are available to create the classic Eurocon atmosphere..
Network capacity should be more than sufficient and for all sharing needs a local (file)server is available.
The bedrooms are nice and comfortable enough for our standards, and for our smoking friends you can just hop around the corner outside to take your break.. Smoking in the con room itself is not allowed.

4 days of dweebery!

Ready for departure! The 12th time, we almost lost track here :) And yes we're getting old and rusty but as long as we can operate the joystick and our beerglass, we are eager to give it another spin!
So to all veterans and newbies, we would love to see you joining us for another great run. All is hard to explain in words so make sure you check the picture albums of the past editions which you can find somewhere down this post. That will give a pretty good impression of what this madness is about :)

You want to know more about the crew and history of the Eurocon? Check our history page here

Hands, hands, hands! The phenomenon you will definitely see during the whole event, check in to 'feel the force...' :)

The kickoff is on Thursday, as always. In the morning we're building up the con room and all are welcome to drop in in the afternoon. Guests are welcome at about 14:00 CET, then all the (tech) setup should be in good working order.

A diner is arranged at 18:00 on Thursday, this is the first meal we're serving, so make sure you arrange some food for yourself in the morning and/or afternoon when you travel to us..
More info on the events and the program will be published later as soon as it is available. Just keep an eye on the forum.

Arriving by plane, train and car

BTW, that is an awesome price of just 200 euro for 4 days/ 3 nights including breakfast/lunch/dinner and a busride. You would never find a place in the US for $275 US dollars.

Is there a plan for a get together in the States sometime soon? I mean this looks cool but I don't think the budget is going to allow a trip like that any time soon.

How bout a midwest con?
