You can't believe it, I can't believe it BUT it's finally here! The mighty heavy-bomber Vickers Wellington is being introduced into the game! Read on!!
This important aircraft, strategic and tactical changes, ALL-ACCESS Weekend for OPERATION Download Moar Ram, plus 2023 fundraiser news are discussed below.
In the upcoming days, airmen, young and old, will climb into their newest aeroplane, the Vickers Wellington MkIII, a twin-engine bomber with a flexible and large bombload capacity, to alight into the overcast skies over merry England to crossover The Channel, ever ascending to greater heights as Bomber Command seeks out the new and vital factories of the Axis forces. These factories, some deep within enemy territory have been newly activated by the Axis Material Production Ministry.
The long-awaited Wellington heavy bomber brings the Allied Air Forces on par with the Axis He-111 heavy bomber. Each will have comparable and flexible bomb load-outs which is a new feature for WWII Online. Not only will the Wellington carry a significant bomb load onto the target area, but it also has significant forward and rear-facing armament to keep those pesky enemy fighters away from the fabric-covered bomber. A great secret to the Wellington is the unique and robust quality of its construction due to the geodetic design developed by the aircraft designer, Barnes Wallis.
For the first time in years, a new chapter has been opened in the strategic bombing aspect of Resource Development Points (RDP) missions. Each side now has eighteen factories to bomb with the Tier 3 American supply directly interconnected with the British factories. This means each faction is now on a level playing field so each bombing run that destroys an enemy factory impacts their opponent(s) equally.
MORE damage to factories equals SLOWER rates of supply so get to bombing, boys! For the first time, German factories will now be exposed to naval bombardment for adventurous destroyers who dare to run the gauntlet to the northern shores of Germany to shell their opponent's factories.

More strategic and tactical gameplay continues . . . .
- Fuel usage is now IN-GAME for ALL vehicles (not just planes)
- Logistical support via standard trucks, haulers, supply/fuel trucks can provide fuel/ammo via proximity. In addition, placing a fuel barrel PPO near a friendly plane, ship, or vehicle assembly area provides fuel and ammo, too.
- Mobile airfields have been intermittently used but with the ability to receive both ammo and fuel, pilots have the option for short flight times on their combat sorties. A well-prepared mobile airfield will not only have good landing terrain, supporting fuel, and ammo but also friendly anti-aircraft guns to keep enemy fighter sweeps at bay.
- Airfield destruction is being introduced for LIVE TESTING and EVALUATION at a single airfield, Martlesham Airfield (UK). It is our test bed which allows enemy bombers to damage their opponents' airfields. Upon successful testing and review, it can be implemented into the game world at all airfields. At present, the testing airfield has a damage threshold, and once reached, there is no current mechanic to repair the airfield as there is for bridge or AI gun repair. The repair function is directly tied to the building destruction/repair function in the game which means it is time-based. If implemented, this tactical element will allow both sides to influence their aerial opponents more realistically with increased flight times from status airfields. It should be noted that there is no damage threshold on a mobile airfield.
There are more features in this upcoming patch but we wanted to take a moment and recognize the introduction of this iconic British bomber into WWII Online. The Imperial War Museum talks about "Life and Death in Bomber Commander" here.
