For those who do not know in our latest game update we have increased the damage required to take down Forward Bases by 2.5x. Like any other change we make to the game it will bring a debate on whether to not it was the right move to make and there's one going on right now in the Barracks.
Today at our weekly production meeting I shared some of this feedback with our team. We're going to be monitoring its affects closely and revise supply as needed. We don't want to make any changes too soon because it will dilute our ability to measure its performance and effect on the Campaign.
Here are a few player posts on the subject,
pulverapa "I love the new FB change. Yesterday we attacked Ath and were able to sustain the attack for a long period of time. It really brings the player base together even more. Everyone stays in town instead of scattered in town and at FB. There's one big fight and it helps the game. Axis was still able to hold Ath after great defending."
stonecomet "So far I like it.
Yes, it takes a team to take down an FB these days and if it is guarded it takes most of the player base to push that FB with a combined arms assault. Changing the damage model to 2.5 does not feel arcade like to me at all, it feels more realistic and it is nowhere near a decision to make them indestructible. That's just a red herring argument from my point of view.
Taking down an FB these days takes more effort. You have to do recon and see if it is guarded. Then you should probably have more than one player when actually taking it down. We have to remember that CRS is getting ready for STEAM release which means making the game more geared toward higher populations where the arguments against increased FB health are for a smaller player base. But the main reason was to not allow very few individuals to disrupt an attack which I think has been done.
My first battle when the servers were back up was at an FB near Landracies and the Axis was pushing the FB hard with combined arms, it was a blast. I couldn't remember the last time I saw so much action around an FB. I still think the better solution, long term, is to allow a very carefully calculated damage model that would allow prolonged joules damage from bombs and shells to eventually take the FB out along with the increased health. However this would require a more robust model with better spawning protection and more than one exit or facility for infantry and vehicles respectively."
Your feedback remains valuable for us. In the future we'll run a community wide survey with some questions to get the entire community's feedback directly so we can continue to make more informed decisions.
Meanwhile, you can get involved in the discussion by going to the Barracks posting located HERE (active premium subscription required).
New Mac Client
For those of you who might have missed it we do have a new Mac client now available! Please be aware that the minimum requirements for the Mac OS X are now 10.9, anything below that we will be unable to provide support for.
We are also aware of a few issues with the Mac client such as the cmd + H not functioning! Rest assured our code rats are working on it! There was also an issue with code signing and that will be corrected as well.
Upgrade to the latest game update (visit our downloads page here).
1.34.11 is released now and as XOOM mentioned last week we're preparing for our Welcome Back Soldier event as promised with the IndieGoGo funding. Exciting times are here right now at WWII Online, WOOT!
Please leave some questions or comments below that we can prepare for our next community update so the project lead can answer them directly!
