For awhile we have been considering ideas on how to improve network communication between North America & Europe, the bulk of where our worldwide customer base is located. Today we're ecstatic to report that the next step in this exploration which will be in the form of an important live stress test coming this Saturday January 15th at 11AM Pacific Time (1PM Central, 2PM Eastern, 7PM GMT) on an all-new WWII Online server with uber specs located in New Jersey, USA. This marks our first step towards going to the cloud and it also acts as a perfect middle ground between the two continents and our in-house European testers have reported a rather significant drop in ping time. If this all works then we should see less lag reports and player deaths should synchronize more cleanly and quickly.
Remember, this is all exploration and the Oregon based servers will remain in position. Please continue reading for event details provided by TEX64 (Community Manager) and mark your calendars to attend, this is really important!
OPERATION ELEPHANT BY TEX64: The German army is sorely pressed as the war enters its likely end-phase but Germany continues to resist and lives are being lost. The II Canadian Army has been tasked with crossing the Meuse River and by securing the crossing either capture HATERT partially or in entirety, thereby allowing sufficient lanes of advancement to bypass HATERT and capture and defeat the German blocking force that is expected at the MALDEN AIRFIELD BUNKER. This will allow the II Canadian Army to advance onto NIJMEGEN to the north.
Key event considerations:
PC users will see a new US East Coast server coming soon in your PlayGate launcher (the Play Online shortcut) and Mac users will need to download a special launcher here (launch this, then use the Campaign server to login).
The WWII Online Campaign server will be locked and frozen to preserve its state. After a 3 hour stress test we will re-commence Campaign operations no later than 2-2:30PM Pacific Time.
Operation Elephant Historical Map
We need the following:
- Massed players within a close proximity
- Tons of player-based objects (PPO)
- Heavy use of server-tracked objects (mortars HE + Smoke & Smoke grenades)
- Use of close-support vehicles to aide in the defense/assault while destroying PPOs and buildings
- Tracking your performance and compare it against the live Campaign server
- Try lots of chat commands / normal functionality to see if all works correctly
- Loads of fun and great reporting
What other things you can expect:
- High probability of rain (remember this is a STRESS test)
- Augmented numbers of combat engineers, engineers, and mortar men
- Paratroopers (German)
- Navy (British)
- Tier 3 (Garrison) with reduced kit numbers
What will NOT be there:
- Enemy aircraft (there MIGHT be a Ju-52 or two as paratroopers are stationed near the front lines)
At the end of the event we will request you do a .report on the test server asking for some brief feedback. Additionally you will get an Survey via e-mail about your experiences for more in depth responses.
We hope this comes as welcome news and further shows that Playnet / CRS is always looking to improve upon the WWII Online experience.
