The new Player Placed Objects that made their debut with the 1.32 update have been in use for a couple of weeks and the impact has been significant. The overwhelming majority of survey respondents give the Infantry Fighting Position and the Gun Emplacement high marks for effectiveness on the battlefield. The feedback on the Field Resupply Unit has been mixed. Everyone agrees that the FRU is a useful tool, but the current rules could stand to be modified.
Rather than go back to the drawing board to redesign the FRU, we're first going to make some small but important changes based on our play testing and suggestions by players. The current design allows a mission leader to build/move the FRU very quickly, with a short cool down timer. The biggest issue we've seen is the frustration that as soon as an enemy FRU has been located and destroyed, another one will pop up immediately to replace it. There is no penalty for failing to keep your FRU secure.
The changes we've decided on are these:
- The cool-down timer for the mission leader to build an FRU is 3 minutes
- If the FRU is destroyed by the enemy, the cool-down timer resets to 10 minutes from the time the FRU is destroyed
- /makeleader does not reset the timer
The feedback for Mission Leaders will continue to be the cool down timer for the FRU. The extended time for rebuilding a destroyed FRU will be reflected in the cool down rate.
What all this means is that a mission leader can only move the FRU once every 3 minutes. If the FRU is destroyed, there will be a delay of 10 minutes before a new one can be built. This does a couple of things: It makes the FRU more valuable and in need of some defense while allowing the defenders some time to try to clean up the remaining enemies on that mission before another spawn in point can be built.
These changes can be made fairly easily and quickly, and should appear in the next 1.32 patch. After the new rules have been live for a week or so, we'll have a good idea if more changes need to be made.
